So im three days away from starting a new tank on the stand ive been building for the last few months. On sunday morning, I started cleaning tanks as I usually do, and everything went fine... or so I thought. After toping up the last tank, I noticed something sticking out of the end of the sink attachement. At first I thought it was the usually pant type gunk, but upon closer inspection it was a fish. And that fish was my last gardneri killi female, which was about to finally get transfered to its breeding tank on wednesday... Now i have to go find more females...
Worst part is, I got really attached to her, I've had her for over a year now, and I had to cut her out of the sink attachement of my python since she was really stuck.

:frown: That's so sad and disappointing... but these things happen. Fish, like cats, are curious creatures and hence, get sometimes get themselves into trouble. Hope you find another female soon.

Bleh. Sorry to hear that Vince.
But if it helps any, I did a very similar thing yesterday during water changes. My 3 lower, big tanks (2*50 1*90) I use a pond pump to drain them, with a little piece of hose on the inlet so I can suck up the gunk. Works well, but I let go of the suction side for a sec to turn around and grab something. One of my black Angels in the 90 decided to see if the hose had any food. It sucked his face in. I was able to shut it off pretty quick, and he wasnt dead but I think he took a beating. Will be watching to see if he makes it over the next couple days.
I am getting some new killies soon. not sure what kind the are yet.
Another option is, I am going to Arizona shortly and could pick up some eggs from Silly Killy for you if you want to grow some gardneri

prices are in USD. No charge for shipping or picking up or anything from me, as she works in Chandler and I go there to golf quite often so no big deal to pick them up.

Sorry about your fish. Thankfully all my fish are too big to get sucked through my python.

Which gardneri? The gardneri/nigerianus groups may be ring species - in which they appear similar but can't necessarily interbreed. So one gardneri may not be able to produce viable offspring with another. What we're calling a species and what genetics makes a species don't necessarily go together.

- aquarium strain - lol
I have no idea about where they came from, my original thoughts are that they are hybrids to begin with. The reason i say this, is that the male currently has one yellow tip, and one white tip on his caudal. His colours are absolutely spectacular.
But with this latest development, i may just scrap the whole current gardneri project and pick a couple new species. While those species grow out, ill toy around with blue gularis -aquarium strain- from a local breeder. ive posted pictures of the male in another thread

I think we have all been a victim of this. I built a net trap that I put the outflow from the hose into. It catches all the mulm (which goes into the composter rather than plugging up my plumbing) and the occasional fish that ventures too close to the hose intake!
