All I can say is OUCH! It's one thing to choose to have a body part pierced. However, these fish didn't make a choice. And finally, the question is 'Why would anybody do this?' Once again, it's in the same vein as tattooing. I don't think it should be allowed.

Oh that is sooo wrong! Those poor fish, it's not like they had a choice or understood what was going on when he peirced them. Even if the dude had an interest he just just peirce himself again, not them. Now they have a spike through their lower lip :( so sad. Why can't people let fish be fish?

While i cant see it causing any serious problems, I dont understand why anyone would want to do that to their fish.
I have tattoo's but ide never tattoo my fish. I guess some people are just that moronic.

If the water is not perfect can't you see it causing infections? When you get peirced you have to take care of the puncture with antiseptics etc and keep it free from bacteria. It takes weeks to heal. In an oscar tank, especially one that is too small and with multiple oscars, there is bacteria everywhere. It is also painful for the fish, probably much more painful that for us. I wonder if it makes it harder for them to eat or to play with the gravel, or do whatever it is that those fish like to do naturally.
I have no problem with ppl getting tattoo's or getting peirced however when you force an animal to go through pain like that when it has no meaning to them, and only meaning to satisfy yourself I think it's wrong, no matter how seriously harmful it may or may not be.
