So I got promotted at work again, and the big honcho's want me to go to our vancouver location to meet everyone face to face and say hi and hang out for a day. They are covering all my trips expenses (within reason) and they have left the date of travel to my discretion. Is there any fun fishy activities coming up in the vancouver area in the next few months I should know about? if there is, I would be timing my travel dates so I can experience another city's fish community.
LEt me know
Thanks
Vince

Congrats! I hope and nice pay increase comes with the promotion.
As for anything "fishy", I can't think of anything off hand but I'll put my thinking cap on.

I think the fishiest thing happening any time soon would be the VAHC meetings first Wed of most months. A get together for coffee, lunch etc maybe arrangeable with some members here. Congrats on your promotion.

Hello Vince ...
Since my cousin worked in the Vancouver Aquarium and influenced me to keep tropical fish I would say go and visit the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park.

thanks for the comment. I was just in Vancouver last summer and I did get to go to the aquarium. I have to say I was dissapointed with their fresh water section and wasn't very impressed with the salt water stuff. For starters, their freshwater tanks suck, not only are the fish in the tanks from different parts of the globe, but the ones that they do have the fish from the same are, not only are they small and in need of attention, but I have the same fish at home and mine are nicer lol. As for the saltwater displays, I see nicer tanks in the homes of truely devoted fans. I really wish someone would get the ball rollin on an major upgrade to the facility and make some breath taking displays. The way they have things set up now is more like a fish in a glass box in my books.
I'm done complaining. Maybe Ill treat myself to a trip to some of the really nice aquariums in the US one of these days.

That is sad :( I have not been there since the early 80's when I lived very close to Stanley Park. In the late 60's and early 70s when I first went there the Aquarium was one of the tourist spots I went as a youth. Vince you being from Calgary do you remember the old Calgary Aquarium that was at the brewery on 9th Avenue?

I'm sure they'd love to have the best of the best, as soon as those who complain are willing to pay $250 / visit. :Angel:I think any public aquarium that manages to stay open these days is pulling off quite a feat.

What? No good auctions coming up in the next month or two? A fish auction in another part of the country is always worth attending. Fish clubs in any one area tend to fill up with similar fish but even a trip of 100 miles will get you to a club with a different emphasis. Just bring lots of cash and get the low down on the local club auctions.

Umm, he's way too young for that. I went there when I was little and was very sad when it moved to Montreal. Now I just settle for the arowanas at Smitty's:laugh:

Yes I do believe it was sent to Calgary's sister city Quebec though I could be wrong though .. LOL Arowana @ Smitty's ... Remember the Arowana at the Carriage House Motor Inn in South East Calgary ..
Used to watch that tank on my breaks from playing the Bar there many times

Good point! The VAHC Spring auction is usually members only, the big one is in November. There's an auction at every meeting though, and guests are welcome.
