My light in the 10G blew tonight and I need to get another one soon as its about the only tank I own that plants flourish in. I can't get around to a lot of fish stores, the only large one being Petsmart. Can I get them at Home Depot? I have one of those reasonably close and I'd like to replace it without handing over the week's budget.

Any suggestions as to what variety will continue this plant flourish? I haven't looked at it yet so I don't know what's in it. <Girly girl...lol> Ask Mr. GP, I got the tank from him  .

Is it just the bulb that you need? If so, it should say on the bulb what type it is. It should be an 18" 15W T8 flourescent bulb. Petsmart should have them: http://www.petsmart.com/global/search/search_results.jsp?In=Fish&N=2030120&Ne=2

Home Depot might have something suitable as well but I don't know if they would be the proper spectrum for plant growth.

If you can't find anything, I have a spare 20" incandescant light strip housing 2 15W screw-in CF bulbs that you could borrow for a bit. I got two for my 30G but since there are no plants yet I am only using one of them for the time being.

Thank you Sir! I appreciate the offer but I might as well go find one. I'll hit Petsmart at the first of the week  .

Ok now get this - I go today to find a light at a local store since I was walking past anyway, and they want $24 for an 18" bulb, on sale no less, so I figured I'd shop around a bit. So I'm feeding this evening and forget that the tank has a burned out bulb (its part of my routine to turn the lights on as I feed). It turned on just fine....lol.

Maybe its going to do the same thing that the 33G is doing. It turned on yesterday for maybe a second and then went black so I figured that was a classic burnout - any thoughts?

Hmm... sounds like maybe it's the ballast and not the bulb that is fried. Or maybe even the switch...

No, its not something more expensive. Try again.

 Well if anyone ever thought I had an ounce of intelligence, this oughta dismiss the notion. Went to do a waterchange tonight and unplugged it all. Got to the hood plug and guess what? It was only half way in  . GIRLY GIRL!!!!! LOL Sorry to waste your expertise Mr. GP. Glad I didn't buy that light today.:rolleyes:

OK, I'll stop laughing now to say that I'm glad it turned out that way... look at the bright side (pun intended), the light works and you saved yourself a $24+tax.

Shall I make you feel a little better? The other day, I thought the volume control on my CD Walkman was toast and stuck on max volume... until I realized I had plugged the headphones into the 'line out' jack as opposed to the headphone jack. Duh!
Nobody's perfect!

Oh I'm still perfect - its the plug-in's fault. ;)

Sad part is, had any male been brave enough to ask me if it was plugged in, I would have been totally insulted.
