Hey gang,
I'm going to try breeding diamond, black phantom, and serpae tetras. I was wondering how you guys raise the fry. I've never had luck growing green water or infusoria. Is there a trick. Would liquifry work instead?

Liquifry pollutes very quickly.
The only tetras I've bred have been one South American Rachoviscus sp., which had killie-sized fry, and a few smaller African tetras that were in natural set-up, heavily planted and therefore infusoria rich tanks. I didn't go for large numbers. I hatched cardinals, but it ended there - I failed to raise them.
I'd consider krill fines, spirulina, green water and fistfulls of java moss.

We have a guy out my way who raises hundreds of tetras and he starts the fry out on liquifry. I'm going to try my hand at getting infusoria to grow. Mike Helwig uses a gallon jar filled with healthy aquarium water with a few grains of boiled rice. He says you can see the infusoria swimming in 2 or 3 days. I've got 3 jars now and if I see anything i will try the tetras.

Hey Gary,

would you be able to describe the method? I'd like to try myself as I have some newborn baby bettas that would love it.

Best of luck breeding them. I'd love to see some pictures if you get a change to post some.
